David practises in all areas of property law and over the past 30 years has specialised in the law associated with valuation, compulsory land acquisition and compensation. His expertise in these areas is well recognised. He acts for a diversity of government and corporate clients. David’s expertise in this area of law led the Victorian and New South Wales governments to invite him to assist in preparing related legislation. In November 2006, David received the Presidents prize from the Law Institute of Victoria. The award recognised David’s professional excellence in practising law and in providing outstanding service to the community.


  • wide experience in relation to compensation assessment pursuant to the provision of the operations of the Land Acquisition and Compensation Act 1986 and Planning and Environment Act 1987
  • practised in land acquisition and compensation since 1978, largely for governmental instrumentalities which include VicRoads, Linking Melbourne Authority, Places Victoria, Department of Transport, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (formerly Department of Environment and Primary Industries)
  • acting for owners of land who have been affected by land acquisition by bodies such as electricity and gas companies, water authorities and councils
  • acting for water authorities and councils
  • property work including commercial leases, domestic leases, the transfer and conveyances of all types of properties
  • the interpretation and application of legislation
  • preparing wills including testamentary trusts, standard husband/wife wills and wills creating charitable trusts
