Leonard Warren Glass



Leonard practises in the area of commercial dispute resolution with a focus on taxation, contract, commercial, corporate and trade practices law. Leonard is experienced in conducting complex litigious matters, both in court and through arbitration, as well as class actions. He has experience in most jurisdictions, with his practice mainly in the Supreme Court, Federal Court and Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.


  • Advising on property, building and construction, litigation, including the enforceability of contracts of sale, claims arising between landlord and tenant under leases, Conducting of claims involving the compulsory acquisition of property. Drafting building and design contracts, advice on insurance requirements, acting in respect of disputes between contractors and sub-contractors
  • Providing corporate advice and litigation, including applications to the Takeovers Panel, the conduct of litigation involving oppressive conduct against minority shareholders, advisory work in respect of competition requirements under the Trade Practices Act, conduct of litigation concerning the duties of directors, conduct of litigation involving misleading and deceptive conduct, conduct of directors’ meetings on behalf of clients, claims in respect of the issuing, acquisition and disposal of shares
  • Advising on bankruptcy and insolvency matters, including bringing bankruptcy and winding up applications
  • Advising on defamation matters
  • Advising on professional conduct matters
  • Advising on tax matters, including applications to Federal Government for tax exempt status, tax advice for public or charitable institutions or schools, objections to penalties for late tax payments, advice concerning the applicability of tax rulings
  • Providing advice on other general commercial litigation including contract disputes and joint venture disputes, and conduct on behalf of manufacturer in respect of the denial of liability by insurers
  • Advising on constitutional and administrative law, including advice concerning the compulsory acquisition of property, advice concerning free trade between states, advice concerning superannuation rights, advice in respect of applications under Freedom of Information Act and conduct of litigation challenging refusal to release information
  • Advising on criminal law matters, including defence of prosecution under Health and Safety legislation (death in workplace), Building Act (backpackers accommodation), by the Office of Gas Supply (use of gas during gas crisis), Crimes Act (motoring offences), Trade Practices Act (competition concerns)
