Julie is a highly regarded legal practitioner within the compulsory land acquisition jurisdiction. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience having provided legal advice to a number of government authorities such as Roads Corporation, the Urban Renewal Authority Victoria (Places Victoria), the Department of Environment and Primary Industries and Linking Melbourne Authority.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in all aspects of compulsory land acquisition; advising and representing a number of government authorities in relation to claims for compensation under the Land Acquisition and Compensation Act 1986 and the Planning and Environment Act 1987 including appearing in both the Supreme Court of Victoria and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal
  • Advising Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust on planning issues, environmental issues and heritage issues including issues associated with the redevelopment of Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Centre (now known as the Westpac Centre) and the redevelopment of Olympic Park; reviewing and advising on the requirements of various planning schemes; drafting statements of evidence and submissions for use in VCAT hearings; advising developers and affected property owners in respect of town planning matters; drafting and negotiating Section 173 agreements with Councils
  • Drafting and negotiating commercial leases and licences; preparing ancillary agreements with respect to common property; car parking agreements; preparing default notices; exercising landlords' rights of re-entry; drafting various security documents as a means of securing the obligations of tenants under commercial leases
  • General commercial litigation involving both Supreme Court and County Court proceedings
