Workplace Relations Seminar - Setting the Standard: Performing Well when Managing Employee Performance

Let’s face it: managing poor performance is incredibly hard.  It requires difficult and time-consuming conversations when actual work needs to be done. It can also be frustrating when a performance-management process is not working.

However, ignoring small performance concerns usually leads to bigger problems later on.  Similarly, mistakes when managing performance can open the door to workers’ compensation and other legal claims, even if a process does not result in dismissal.

In this seminar, Ben Tallboys and Abbey Burns will discuss:

  • The difference between poor performance and misconduct.
  • Informal steps for managing performance issues.
  • The formal performance-management process.
  • Steps employers should be taking to minimise the risk of legal action when managing (or dismissing) underperforming employees.
  • Dealing with employees who take sick leave or make bullying complaints in response to a performance-management process.
