Last night Russell Kennedy Lawyers entered the Deakin Edge Amphitheatre at Federation Square Melbourne to a room abuzz with anticipation, creativity and pride.
As a foundation sponsor of Oxygen Ventures’ The Big Pitch, a group from Russell Kennedy got to witness five impressive young entrepreneurs pitch their ventures to a stellar judging panel.
The crowd of over 300 watched with intrigue and awe as the cast of start-ups stood their ground on the ‘circle of death’ (presentation platform) to convince the panel to award them with up to $5million in funding. It came down to the calendar marketing innovation of eCal, and online education marketplace, We Teach Me. While there was only one trophy available, the judges took their prerogative to go off course and award both start-ups the title of The Big Pitch Winner.
As a truly tech-driven event, the opportunity to vote via text for People’s Choice saw gaming start-up KartSim (Black Delta) get the nod for their consumer centric idea and impressive pitch video demo. With the promise of immediate negotiations and direct consultation with Oxygen Ventures’ front man, Larry Kestelman, we expect to see big things from these winners in the future.
Congratulations to all involved in putting the event together and of course to the finalists and winners. Russell Kennedy were thrilled to be a part of the The Big Pitch and are looking forward to more opportunities to become involved with Australia’s vibrant start-up community in the future.
