This article analyses a recent case from the UK Court of Appeal, R v BM. The case concerns body modification procedures and the laws surrounding consent.
Specifically, the case involved:
the removal of a customer’s ear;
the removal of a customer’s nipple; and
the division of a customer’s tongue to create a snake-like effect/
Body modification is quite different to tattooing, body piercing and minor cosmetic surgery because it is not a well regulated area. The article examines similar cases from the UK and how they affected R v BM.
