New laws that facilitate greater access to information about donor treatment procedures in Victoria
The Assisted Reproductive Treatment Amendment Act 2014 was passed by the Victorian Parliament on 21 August 2014. The reforms are significant in that they provide a person born before 1988 from a donor treatment procedure access to information about their donor, where it is available and where the donor consents.
Russell Kennedy Principal, Michael Gorton AM, Chair of the Patient Review Panel under IVF legislation will lead discussion.
Emma Turner, Special Counsel with Russell Kennedy, will speak on the reforms and the likely impact for Assisted Reproductive Treatment Providers, health professionals, donor-conceived persons, donors and their families. Prior to joining Russell Kennedy Emma worked for the Department of Health and managed the Victorian Government response to the Parliamentary Law Reform Inquiry into Access by Donor-Conceived People to information about their Donors which gave rise to the amendments.
