Russell Kennedy Lawyers named law firm of the year in Retirement Villages and Senior Living Law

Russell Kennedy Lawyers has been named the 2018 'Law Firm of the Year' for expertise in the practice area of Retirement Villages and Senior Living Law by Best Lawyers.

In addition, this year Donna Rayner, Principal at Russell Kennedy, has been awarded the ‘Lawyer of the Year’ in the same category of Retirement Villages and Senior Living Law.

Last year Wai-Hwoon Low was awarded the prestigious honour of the individual award in the same category, the year before it was Rosemary Southgate and the year before that it was John Corcoran AM, which means this is the fourth year in a row that a Russell Kennedy Principal has taken out the honour.

For more than 30 years Russell Kennedy has advised aged care owners, developers and operators on the acquisition, development, construction, financing, operation, management, compliance and disposal of their facilities.

Aged care and retirement living is a sector of focus at Russell Kennedy, this focus is exemplified in the fact that of the 13 lawyers listed in Best Lawyers in Australia 2018 edition, 7 of them were recognised for expertise in the aged care, retirement living, senior living sectors and include Principals Victor Harcourt, Rosemary Southgate, John Corcoran AM, Kathryn Elleman, Wai-Hwoon Low, Michael Gorton AM and Donna Rayner.

Inclusion in Best Lawyers is based entirely on peer review, to try to capture the consensus opinion of leading lawyers about the professional abilities of their colleagues.

Russell Kennedy Managing Director, Paul Gleeson, says “This is another incredibly impressive award result for Russell Kennedy, as the aged care industry has evolved, Russell Kennedy has clearly evolved too.”

He added: “There is a proven correlation between teams that are recognised by their industry peers time and time again and work that is exceptionally well thought of by clients.”

Russell Kennedy’s connection with the sector is reflected in their longstanding relationships with peak industry bodies such as LASA, ACSA, the Aged Care Guild and the Property Council of Australia.

Growing law firm Russell Kennedy opened its office in Canberra in late 2013 and in January 2017 announced the introduction of John Hoey and his team from Hoeys Lawyers in Melbourne to the firm. In January this year a Geelong satellite office was opened.

The firm received a total of thirteen individual listings; Russell Kennedy would like to congratulate all of our lawyers who were named. Read more here
