Join Russell Kennedy for an interactive webinar where our aged care team will offer practical strategies and insights around managing the legal rights of residents and staff during this COVID-19 pandemic.

The States are moving to further protect vulnerable residents of aged care facilities by restricting the movement of those residents who put themselves at risk of contracting COVID-19. Recent comments by the Prime Minister have created further challenges for providers who have moved to a full “lockdown” of their homes. Providers need to ensure they are aware of the rules in their particular State or territory, and consider how to manage these in the context of residents’ rights under the Charter and the Aged Care Act.

This live webinar will cover the following:

Flu vaccinations and visitation
  • What are the rules on flu vaccines?
  • How to manage visitors?
  • What are the rules on locking down your facility and what are the risks of this?
Staffing
  • Can you prevent staff from working if they are working at another home?
  • Do you have to pay staff if they have to take time off to self-isolate?
  • When is it ok for someone to work without a flu shot?
  • What do you do if staff can’t get vaccinated, or if they refuse to do so?
Residents’ rights and compliance issues
  • What rights do residents have to leave the home?
  • Can residents be required to self-isolated if they have been out of the home?
  • Restraint issues: are you restraining residents?
  • What is your legal exposure if you get a COVID-19 outbreak?
